Boston 168 fuse industrial roots with acid-soaked melodies on an unmissable EP for BPitch!

BPitch present a new EP of unfiltered techno and impeccable sound design by Turin-based duo Boston 168. Following on from three releases on the label and a 2019 appearance on its hotly tipped sub label UFO Inc, the duo head for cavernous industrial spaces and vivid psychedelic trips with Gigantia, due for digital release 14.07.23.
Having produced music together since 2014, Sergio Pace and Vincenzo Ferramosca have built a name for themselves from a particularly spatial strain of techno that has afforded them an illustrious career to date. Gigantia sees the duo drawing upon the industrial roots of their hometown, merging a range of influences with a distinctly melodic take on Acid Techno.

Boston 168 return to BPitch Berlin with an EP that promises no less than a proper »909 Therapy« in three cathartic sessions. Their second release for Ellen Allien’s label sees the two Italians working with the legendary drum machine for a triptych that ranges from the raw to the melancholic and cosmic techno. Theirs is a hands-on approach to physical and psychological therapy, for sure. More

The shortest connection between the past and the future leads through the music of Boston 168. Drawing inspiration from both classic and contemporary approaches to the acid techno sound, early nineties rave culture and the throbbing pulse of the now, Sergio Pace and Vincenzo Ferramosca have carved out a niche for themselves which over the past four years has become a musical microcosm of its own. Having released a slew of records on such labels as Involve, Attic, Odd Even and Dustin Zahn’s Enemy, the Italian duo now presents its most cohesive musical statement thus far on Ellen Allien’s BPitch. On the three tracks of »Drops In Heaven«, Boston 168 seamlessly mold together lysergic acid lines with elements of nineties ambient techno and a rhythmic groundwork that is as thrilling as it is intricate.
»Cosmic Tribe« translates its idea of universal togetherness into a nerve-wrecking groove punctuated by complex percussion work and a subtly building acid line, while »Drops In Heaven« uses a booming kick drum as base for an emotionally driven exploration of sonic textures. The psychedelic »Straight to Light« nods to nineties pioneers like Emmanuel Top, showcasing Ferramosca and Pace’s talent for creating musical depth by ingeniously bringing together a few select elements to greater effect. These are tracks that relentlessly head towards the unknown final frontier of what techno can sound like in 2018, while not in the least neglecting the rich tradition that they draw from.

Fabrizio Lapiana continues to offer up deep musical escape from these troubling times with another expertly crafted techno EP, Cantamen, on his own Attic Music label. It features four of his own original cuts and builds on the success of his latest release, Collective Chaos, back in March.

For more than a decade, this Italian artist has been at the forefront of a techno scene that deals in deep and rolling drums, well sculpted synths and cavernous grooves that are rich in ambient detail. His Attic Music label has been at the centre of that thanks to careful A&R and always innovative releases, while he has also released on cult imprints such as M_Rec Ltd, ARTS, Figure Jams and Out-Er and many other collaborations.

Sleek opener 'Demons' is a mind melting and widescreen deep techno groove. Groaning synths creep across the face of the track as all manner of earthy and organic motifs drift by, as if you're racing through an underground network of caves. It's music for the mind as well as the body, and the hugely atmospheric 'Cantamen' is just the same - fizzing synth details and alien life forms fill the airwave with tension as the smooth and supple kick drums pound away down below.

The hypnotic masterclass continues on 'Kura' with rattling snares and harder hitting drums making you move your body before coarse claps and a majestic arpeggiated synth hook repeats up top and takes you to another level of rapture. Last of all is the fantastic 'Back Home', which has a skeletal electro groove run through with late night sci-fi pads. Its vast sense of cosmic infinity leaves you feeling floating adrift amongst the stars.

These are four evocative and cinematic techno tracks that take you into another dimension. More

Berlin based producer ''Synthek'' is a renowned name within contemporary Techno. Besides succesfully running his label Natch Records, he has been also a resident at the infamous Tresor. For the seventeenth installment in the string of Attic Music releases, Synthek (Luca Landolfi) comes up with a staggering EP that contains a lot of adventurous drum patterns, bold arrangements and swells of daring FX. On the A side we find ''Loser'', which is a brave cut of spherical yet moody techno that uses a buldging percussion line and otherwordly fx to create an ominous vibe. ''Uneven Mind'' is an exotic cut with tough drum sounds that uses a hypnotic synth swell that cuts throughout to create an alarming atmosphere. French producer and Concrete resident Antigone comes up with an uplifting (eight minutes long) remix for ''Uneven Mind'' on the B side which is beautifully orchastrated throughout. ''Faithless''is a percussive cut with intense FX blips. More

D.A.N.C.E. (Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments), the various artists series of the label, comes back with the italians Ness, Luigi Tozzi and the french Underjack. On the a-side with -TMB- Ness turns a robotic rhythm in a dark electric / industrial infected tunnel. LuigiTozzi s a2 Blood Meridian strikes soft under an oppressive butterfly effect creating an intense flow. Underjack on the b-side delivers a nebulous groove that is responsible of a eight minutes of immense hypnotic techno cut with energy drums and crispy bassline. More
