Spanish musician Alex Font delivers the third release from his acme imprint this May with two groove led cuts set for a limited release of 200 copies on vinyl. Since his first release in 2008, Alex Font has been etching his name into the worlds of house and minimal, building up an impressive back catalogue of releases on labels including Oblack and Nite Grooves. His imprint acme's debut release '001' garnered support from Dyed Soundorom, Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler, San Proper and Sascha Dive amongst many, and Font returns to deliver the third instalment in the labels catalogue. 'La Buena Onda' kicks off the release with a series of punchy kicks, organic percussion licks and general funkiness before easing into a classic house groove reinforced by its compelling lead line and charming vocals. Second offering 'Sincopa y Contratiempo' switches things up with a minimal arrangement of shuffling hats, glitchy pops and clicks, a distinctly off-kilter swing and delicate nuances throughout its near 12 minute journey. More

Orphic Apparition follow up their inaugural release by RAFRAM, the collaborative project of Toronto's Raf Reza aka Raf Rizzla and UK acid house luminary Ramjac Corporation, with a new two-tracker from the transatlantic bass warriors. Where the RAFRAM 12" gifted us five variations on the same live jam cut from Grow Tottenham, here we have a spontaneous track written by Paul (Ramjac) on the A-side and a fully warped dancehall mix from Raf on the B. (short)

'Press 1 to Repeat' began as an on-the-spot demonstration of the musical self, a natural response to being asked 'What is it that you do?'. Within a few minutes Ramjac had his laptop out and was bashing out a quintessentially English sort of kitchen tabletop version of Kraftwerk - Numbers, the tongue in cheek automated voice on the other end of the line querying his account balance in tow. Proudly showing his friend Ryoko his improvisatory skills, a £10 hifi from a Japanese 2nd hand shop served as the portable monitors whilst the track waited to be brought back to his studio in London. The track is anchored by a bouncy, Irdial-reminiscent percussive workout which punches above its weight for its humble beginnings. Add the dubbed out synth pads and sort of electrical static FX in the background and everything syncs together in cosmic harmony. Hopefully Ryoko now gets the gist!

Raf Rizzla takes the stems and channels some inspiration from the Jamaican movie “Third World Cop” by turning the track on its head with a double-time baseline and half-time melody to craft a big dancehall version with a bit of a modern day On-U twist. Here Raf shows yet another side to his truly versatile production chops which have seen him release house, trance, breaks and downtempo cuts on a variety of Canadian labels prior to starting Orphic Apparition. More

Superluminal cult continues beyond time, this very last catalog ends the Re-Discovery series as a perfect trilogy established by deejay and producer Matthias. These four pieces were composed in the same period where the 961 Studer mixing console was added to the artist studio, summoning their low-ending drum patterns blended into epic polyphonic strings and pads.

The artist gives a wide open glimpse of more dancefloor-oriented materials, the complex and alternate disco-funk synth orientation is well orchestrated without indulgence and most certainly gives birth to four songs of extreme versatility and DJ functionality. Once more the use of the vocoder is largely influential over the arrangements, adding romantic stratified atmospheres of riverbed nostalgia. A retro & modern territories alignment was the catalyst element of the artist's musical style orientation, outletting its sound into a unique musical genre. More

Long-time friend of the label Fader Cap returns to Butter Sessions with a potent four-track EP 'Blue Pool'. First appearing as Sedgwick on our 10 years of BSR compilation, Fader Cap has since released music on Craigie Knows and his own Straight 2 It Recordings.


Connecting the dots between progressive house and techno, the four tracks on 'Blue Pool' maintain an infectious energy, with pumping drums and plenty of space for contemplative synth work to keep the body moving and brain tingling. The rolling, dub-wise basslines set the foundations for intricate sound design and tripped-out sequences that provide that sweet head high we're chasing.
